A safe workplace is key

A healthy work environment starts with trust.

A healthy work environment helps people feel good and stay healthy. But inappropriate behaviour — bullying, (sexual) harassment, discrimination, aggression or violence — is not always visible. People who experience it often keep it to themselves, even though they shouldn't have to.

That's why it matters that everyone knows there is an external confidential advisor: someone who really listens, thinks along, and helps find a way forward in difficult situations or integrity matters.

Feeling unsafe at work can escalate quickly and lead to stress, friction and even long-term absence. An external confidential advisor helps prevent that and tackles issues early — saving everyone worry and avoiding longer absence later on.

Why

Why a confidential advisor matters

For the employer

  • Guidance for managers on the value and role of a confidential advisor
  • Helps prevent absenteeism and escalation by picking up early signals
  • Solution-focused and helps limit formal complaints and reputational damage
  • Can be deployed preventively to head off problems
  • Independent and neutral, with no internal interests
  • Contributes to a safe and pleasant working atmosphere
  • An annual (anonymised) report on trends and points of attention

For the employee

  • Preventive advice on how to handle inappropriate behaviour
  • Everything stays confidential (apart from a few exceptional cases)
  • We look together at an (informal) solution that fits you
  • Can refer you to professional support or a complaints committee
  • A listening ear, without judgement
  • Independent, and fully on your side
  • Good knowledge of the organisation and of where else you can turn
  • First point of contact for help, advice and support
  • Available for aftercare too, once the situation has been resolved

A confidential advisor isn't only there when something has happened — they're also there to get ahead of problems.

Online & in English

Available online & in English

Sometimes a face-to-face meeting isn't practical, or online contact simply feels better. That's why I'm also available remotely, in whichever way works best for you:

Video call

personal, direct contact, wherever you are

A phone call

just pick up the phone if that feels easier

Chat or email

for short questions or a first contact

Online conversations make it easy to share your story quickly and in confidence — no travelling, no worrying about being seen. Help is always within reach. For international organisations, conversations can be held in English as well.

About me

Who am I?

I'm Nanna — born in Brabant, but by now a fully-grown Amsterdammer. I spent years working in the cultural festival world as an organiser, art director and communications manager. That's also where a big part of my passion lies: art and music. Alongside that, I run a practice as a relationship coach.

A number of base hours for conversations with people who reach out

Presentations for (new) employees and/or teams

And of course an annual anonymised report

Always available for advice and support for any internal confidential advisors

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What does a confidential advisor do?
A confidential advisor is someone employees and volunteers can turn to with inappropriate behaviour, conflicts or other concerns at work. Everything you share is confidential. Read more in my article: What does a confidential advisor do?
Is a confidential advisor mandatory?
The Dutch House of Representatives has passed a bill requiring employers with more than ten employees to appoint a confidential advisor. The Senate has yet to vote. Read more in my article: Is a confidential advisor mandatory? What the law says
What's the difference between an internal and an external confidential advisor?
An internal confidential advisor works inside the organisation. An external advisor sits deliberately outside it, which can make it easier to speak in confidence. Many organisations choose a combination of the two.
What does an external confidential advisor cost?
I work with an annual retainer that guarantees availability, combined with an hourly rate for actual conversations. For smaller organisations you can expect roughly €1,000 to €3,000 per year. Get in touch for a conversation about what would fit you.
Is a conversation with a confidential advisor confidential?
Yes. Everything you share stays between us. I don't pass anything on to your manager, HR or anyone else, unless you explicitly ask me to.
What can't a confidential advisor do?
A confidential advisor doesn't make decisions for you, doesn't give legal advice and doesn't carry out investigations. You stay in charge throughout.
